माँ शैलपुत्रीMaa Shailputri
माँ शैलपुत्री नवदुर्गा का पहला स्वरूप हैं। पर्वतराज हिमालय की पुत्री होने के कारण उनका नाम शैलपुत्री पड़ा। नवरात्रि के पहले दिन कलश स्थापना के साथ उनकी पूजा करके साधक अपनी नौ दिन की साधना की नींव रखता है।Maa Shailputri is the first of the nine forms of Durga. She is called Shailputri because she is the daughter of Himavan, king of the mountains. On the first day of Navratri she is worshipped along with the kalash sthapana, laying a steady foundation for the nine days of devotion.

माँ शैलपुत्री का स्वरूप अत्यंत शांत, सौम्य और तेजस्वी है। वे वृषभ पर सवार रहती हैं, इसलिए उन्हें वृषारूढ़ा भी कहा जाता है। उनके दाहिने हाथ में त्रिशूल और बाएँ हाथ में कमल का फूल सुशोभित है। उनके मस्तक पर अर्धचंद्र विराजमान है। वे पार्वती और हेमवती के नाम से भी जानी जाती हैं और भगवान शिव की अर्धांगिनी हैं। उनका यह रूप स्थिरता, धैर्य और दृढ़ संकल्प का प्रतीक है।Maa Shailputri's form is calm, gentle and radiant. She rides a bull, which is why she is also called Vrisharudha. Her right hand holds a trident and her left hand holds a lotus. A crescent moon adorns her forehead. She is also known as Parvati and Hemavati, and she is the consort of Lord Shiva. Her form stands for steadiness, patience and firm resolve.

माँ शैलपुत्री की कथाThe story of Maa Shailputri
पूर्व जन्म में माँ शैलपुत्री प्रजापति दक्ष की पुत्री सती थीं और उनका विवाह भगवान शिव से हुआ था। एक बार दक्ष ने विशाल यज्ञ किया और उसमें सभी देवताओं को बुलाया, परंतु भगवान शिव को निमंत्रण नहीं दिया। सती अपने पिता के यज्ञ में जाने के लिए व्याकुल हो उठीं। शिवजी ने उन्हें समझाया कि बिना बुलाए जाना उचित नहीं, फिर भी सती का आग्रह देखकर उन्होंने अनुमति दे दी।
यज्ञ में पहुँचकर सती ने देखा कि वहाँ भगवान शिव का अपमान हो रहा है और उनका भाग भी नहीं रखा गया। पति का यह अपमान वे सह न सकीं और उन्होंने योगाग्नि से अपने शरीर को भस्म कर दिया। यह समाचार सुनकर भगवान शिव ने क्रोध में अपने गणों को भेजा, जिन्होंने दक्ष के यज्ञ का विध्वंस कर दिया।
अगले जन्म में सती ने पर्वतराज हिमालय के घर पुत्री रूप में जन्म लिया और शैलपुत्री कहलाईं। इस जन्म में भी उनका विवाह भगवान शिव से ही हुआ। इसीलिए माँ शैलपुत्री शिव और शक्ति के अटूट संबंध की प्रतीक मानी जाती हैं।
In her previous birth, Maa Shailputri was Sati, the daughter of Prajapati Daksha, and she was married to Lord Shiva. Once Daksha held a grand yagya and invited all the gods, but did not invite Lord Shiva. Sati longed to attend her father's yagya. Shiva explained that going uninvited was not proper, yet seeing her insistence he allowed her to go.
At the yagya Sati saw that Lord Shiva was being insulted and that no share of the offering had been kept for him. Unable to bear this insult to her husband, she consumed her body in the fire of yoga. When Lord Shiva heard of this, in his anger he sent his ganas, who destroyed Daksha's yagya.
In her next birth Sati was born as the daughter of Himavan, king of the mountains, and came to be known as Shailputri. In this birth too she was married to Lord Shiva. That is why Maa Shailputri is seen as the symbol of the unbreakable bond between Shiva and Shakti.

स्नान और संकल्पBath and sankalp
सुबह जल्दी स्नान करके साफ़ वस्त्र पहनें, सफ़ेद या हल्के रंग के वस्त्र उत्तम माने जाते हैं। पूजा स्थान को साफ़ करें और हाथ में जल, अक्षत और फूल लेकर नौ दिन की नवरात्रि पूजा का संकल्प लें।Wake early, bathe and wear clean clothes; white or light colours are considered best. Clean the puja space and, holding water, rice and a flower in your hand, take the sankalp (vow) for the nine days of Navratri worship.

कलश स्थापनाKalash sthapana
शुभ मुहूर्त में मिट्टी के पात्र में जौ बोएँ। कलश में जल, गंगाजल, सिक्का, सुपारी और अक्षत डालें, उस पर आम के पत्ते रखें और लाल कपड़े में लिपटा नारियल स्थापित करें। यह कलश नौ दिन तक वहीं रहेगा।At the auspicious time, sow barley in an earthen pot. Fill the kalash with water, a little Ganga jal, a coin, a betel nut and rice, place mango leaves on its mouth and set a coconut wrapped in red cloth on top. This kalash stays in place for all nine days.

अखंड ज्योतिAkhand jyoti
यदि संकल्प हो तो घी का अखंड दीपक जलाएँ और ध्यान रखें कि यह नौ दिन तक बुझे नहीं। अखंड ज्योति न रख सकें तो सुबह-शाम दीपक अवश्य जलाएँ।If you have vowed to do so, light an akhand (unbroken) ghee lamp and take care that it stays lit for all nine days. If you cannot keep an akhand jyoti, be sure to light a lamp every morning and evening.

माँ का आवाहनInviting the Mother
चौकी पर लाल कपड़ा बिछाकर माँ दुर्गा की प्रतिमा या चित्र स्थापित करें। पहले भगवान गणेश का स्मरण करें, फिर ध्यान मंत्र पढ़कर माँ शैलपुत्री का आवाहन करें।Spread a red cloth on a low stool and place an image or picture of Maa Durga. First remember Lord Ganesh, then recite the dhyan mantra and invite Maa Shailputri.

पूजन सामग्री अर्पणOffering the puja items
माँ को रोली, कुमकुम, अक्षत, चंदन और सफ़ेद फूल, विशेषकर सफ़ेद कनेर अर्पित करें। चुनरी और सुहाग की सामग्री भी चढ़ाई जा सकती है।Offer roli, kumkum, rice, sandalwood and white flowers, especially white kaner. A chunri and items of suhaag may also be offered.

भोगBhog
माँ शैलपुत्री को गाय के शुद्ध घी का भोग लगाने की परंपरा है। घी या घी से बनी सफ़ेद मिठाई अर्पित करें। मान्यता है कि इससे आरोग्य का आशीर्वाद मिलता है।It is traditional to offer pure cow's ghee to Maa Shailputri. Offer ghee or a white sweet made with ghee. It is believed that this brings the blessing of good health.

मंत्र जाप और आरतीMantra jaap and aarti
"ॐ देवी शैलपुत्र्यै नमः" मंत्र का कम से कम 108 बार जाप करें। फिर दुर्गा चालीसा या सप्तशती का पाठ करें और घी के दीपक व कपूर से माँ शैलपुत्री की आरती करें।Chant "Om Devi Shailputryai Namah" at least 108 times. Then read the Durga Chalisa or Saptashati and perform Maa Shailputri's aarti with a ghee lamp and camphor.

क्षमा प्रार्थनाKshama prarthana
पूजा के अंत में हाथ जोड़कर माँ से पूजा में हुई किसी भी भूल के लिए क्षमा माँगें। फिर प्रसाद परिवार में बाँटें।At the end of the puja, fold your hands and ask the Mother's forgiveness for any mistake made during the worship. Then share the prasad with your family.
