माँ कात्यायनी नवदुर्गा का छठा स्वरूप हैं। महर्षि कात्यायन के यहाँ प्रकट होने के कारण वे कात्यायनी कहलाईं और उन्होंने महिषासुर का वध किया। नवरात्रि के छठे दिन उनकी पूजा से शत्रुओं और बाधाओं पर विजय मिलती है, और विवाह की बाधाएँ दूर करने के लिए भी उनकी उपासना प्रसिद्ध है।Maa Katyayani is the sixth form of Navdurga. She is called Katyayani because she appeared in the home of Maharshi Katyayan, and it was she who slew Mahishasura. Worshipping her on the sixth day of Navratri brings victory over enemies and obstacles, and her worship is also well known for removing hurdles to marriage.

माँ कात्यायनी का स्वरूप अत्यंत भव्य और दिव्य है, और उनका वर्ण स्वर्ण के समान चमकीला है। उनकी चार भुजाएँ हैं। दाहिनी ओर का ऊपरी हाथ अभयमुद्रा में और नीचे का हाथ वरमुद्रा में है। बाईं ओर के ऊपरी हाथ में तलवार और नीचे के हाथ में कमल का फूल सुशोभित है। उनका वाहन सिंह है।Maa Katyayani's form is magnificent and divine, and her complexion shines like gold. She has four arms. Her upper right hand is in the abhaya mudra, granting fearlessness, and her lower right hand is in the varada mudra, granting boons. Her upper left hand holds a sword and her lower left hand holds a lotus. Her mount is the lion.

कथाThe story
माँ कात्यायनी की कथाThe story of Maa Katyayani
पुराणों के अनुसार, महर्षि कात्यायन ने भगवती की कठोर तपस्या की और यह इच्छा प्रकट की कि देवी उनके घर पुत्री रूप में जन्म लें। माँ ने उनकी प्रार्थना स्वीकार की।
जब महिषासुर का अत्याचार बहुत बढ़ गया, तब ब्रह्मा, विष्णु और महेश ने अपने-अपने तेज से एक देवी को प्रकट किया। सबसे पहले महर्षि कात्यायन ने उनकी पूजा की, इसलिए वे कात्यायनी कहलाईं। देवताओं से अस्त्र-शस्त्र पाकर माँ ने महिषासुर से युद्ध किया और उसका वध किया, इसलिए उन्हें महिषासुरमर्दिनी भी कहते हैं।
श्रीमद्भागवत के अनुसार, ब्रज की गोपियों ने भगवान श्रीकृष्ण को पति रूप में पाने के लिए यमुना के तट पर माँ कात्यायनी की पूजा की थी। इसी कारण अच्छे जीवनसाथी की कामना से उनकी उपासना की जाती है।
According to the Puranas, Maharshi Katyayan performed intense penance to the Goddess and wished that she be born in his home as his daughter. The Mother granted his prayer.
When Mahishasura's tyranny grew unbearable, Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh brought forth a Goddess from their combined radiance. Maharshi Katyayan was the first to worship her, so she came to be known as Katyayani. Receiving weapons from the gods, the Mother battled Mahishasura and slew him, which is why she is also called Mahishasuramardini.
According to the Shrimad Bhagavatam, the gopis of Braj worshipped Maa Katyayani on the banks of the Yamuna, praying to have Shri Krishna as their husband. For this reason, she is worshipped by those seeking a good life partner.

प्रातः स्नान और संकल्पEarly bath and sankalp
सुबह स्नान करके लाल वस्त्र पहनें। हाथ में जल, अक्षत और फूल लेकर माँ कात्यायनी की पूजा का संकल्प लें।After the morning bath, wear red clothes. Holding water, akshat and a flower, take a sankalp for Maa Katyayani's puja.

कलश और अखंड ज्योतिKalash and akhand jyoti
कलश को प्रणाम करें, जवारों को जल दें और अखंड ज्योति में घी या तेल डालकर उसे जलते रहने दें।Bow to the kalash, water the jaware and top up the akhand jyoti with ghee or oil so it keeps burning.

माँ कात्यायनी की प्रतिमा या चित्र पर गंगाजल छिड़कें। रोली, कुमकुम, हल्दी, अक्षत और सुहाग की वस्तुएँ अर्पित करें।Sprinkle Gangajal on Maa Katyayani's idol or picture. Offer roli, kumkum, turmeric, akshat and items of suhag (marital adornment).

घी के दीपक और कपूर से माँ कात्यायनी की आरती करें। अंत में पूजा में हुई भूलों के लिए हाथ जोड़कर क्षमा प्रार्थना करें।Perform Maa Katyayani's aarti with a ghee lamp and camphor. Finally, with folded hands, offer the kshama prarthana for any mistakes in the puja.
